| In recent years, the talk has been of “floods of the century,” gale-force storms, months that were too hot or too cold, and insect migrations. These climactic developments and their consequences, which many of us have already experienced, won’t in most cases have any dramatic effect on our own lives.
For many other creatures, however, climate change is already acutely threatening their habitats. Eight percent of the Arctic’s pack-ice surface, for instance, has already disappeared. So, it’s about time that we do something in the interest of climate protection. If we don’t, the Arctic Ocean will be entirely free of ice in the summertime by the end of the century.
